of the 11th IIID-MK Awards 2006 Announced
Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), in association
with MK had instituted the prestigious IIID-MK Awards for
Excellence in Interior design, way back in 1996. Since then
both the organizations had worked towards promoting, recognizing
and rewarding the best of the Interior design work in the
country.
Organized meticulously every year, the IIID-MK Awards logs
the development and current achievements in interior design
practice in the country. The elaborate process includes selecting
the best entries, benchmarking them and documenting the parameters
that are intrinsic to good design by the industry.
To keep up the spirit of participation and provide the contestants
a variety of themes to select from, the eleventh IIID-MK Awards
introduced several new elements in the areas of participation,
regional segmentation, and the selection process.
IIID-MK 2006 Awards attracted more than 250 entries, which
came in from all across the country for the six categories.
1. Residential: Bungalows & apartments
a. Large: Carpet area above 1500 sq.ft.
b. Small: Carpet area below 1500 sq.ft.
2. Offices: Offices, banks, institutional buildings, travel
agencies and similar workplaces
a. Large: Carpet area above 5000 sq.ft
b. Small: Carpet area below 5000 sq.ft
3. Hospitality:
a. Large: Projects covering hotels, clubs etc.
b. Small: Standalone outlets like restaurants, pubs/disco/bar
etc.
4. Retail:
a. Large: Supermarket, anchor stores and big mall, carpet
area above 5000 sq.ft.
b. Small: Standalone outlets like shops, showrooms, etc.,
carpet area below 5000 sq.ft.
5. Interiors of Social Relevance: Schools, hospitals, charitable
institutions, ashrams, sports centers etc.
6. Recreation: Multiplexes, theaters, entertainment centers
etc.
This year, for the first time, the IIID-MK Awards included
Regional Rounds (West, South, East & North), with the
winners of these regional rounds qualifying for the National
Awards.
The entries were judged for originality, creativity, functionality,
space planning, environmental responsibility, fidelity to
client’s brief and cost effectiveness.
The winners of the regional rounds in West were announced
on the 24th March at Surat. The winners of the Southern region
were announced on March 31 at Calicut and that of East region
on April 7.
All the three events were well attended with eminent architects,
interior designers, and members of the jury gracing the events.
In addition to the trophies, certificates and cash prizes
from IIID-MK Awards committee, winners receive well deserved
appreciation and exposure for their capabilities locally and
are provided with the valuable opportunity for their works
to be incorporated into international publications, invitations
for which are periodically received by the IIID.
The Northern region Award is scheduled for April 20 at Habitat
center, New Delhi. All the winners of these regional rounds
qualify for the National Awards program, to be held in Mumbai
on May 4.
The Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) is an association
dedicated to the promotion of excellence in interior design.
It comprises a group of dedicated professionals including
interior designers, architects and manufacturers of interior
products. Two thirds of the members are professionals and
the rest are manufacturers, suppliers and contractors related
to interior design.
IIID is a member of the International Federation of Interior
Designers & Architects, and the Asia Pacific Space Designers’
Association.
